Has the motherboard or processor seemed flakey? Bulging caps on the motherboard? If it still fails after that, then I would think it would be hardware issue on your system.

The drive and disk both work in my buddy's machine who is running a similar setup. I did call plextor and I spoke with a very smart individual and he took me through everything he could come up with.

I did install Nero, but it does not recognize the drive as DVD capable, it only sees it as cd-rom. Also the release promises improved media support, especially for 16x single layers. After an hour and a half, mostly on hold, she asked if a level 2 tech could call me back tomorrow'¦. Talked with Microsoft and asked to speak with level 2 techs but she said she couldn't bump me through without me trying all the other stuff I had previously tried and mentioned. Talked with plextor tech support for 4 hours, smart guy but not smart enough. Disk and drive are both good, problems lies in install.

I installed the new DVD burner and everything looked good except I couldn't install the Easy Media Creator software that. Additionally I tried copying the required files from the DVD to my c: and it only copied the useless ones and gave me errors with others. I had an external Plextor PX-708UF DVD burner (USB) for a while, but now bought a Plextor PX-716A from Dell. I also attempted to install through command prompt. I tried installing the software with no startups from msconfig. I have also attempted to DL the new firmware update from it gives me this error when I try to run:įirmware transfer data error.
